THE ARMED FORCES RESERVE
The Armed Forces Reserve consists of Bulgarian citizens with military or other specialized training who are fit for military service and service in wartime, and who in peacetime have voluntarily committed to combining military service with a civilian career, as well as individuals who may be assigned mobilization duties in wartime. It also includes equipment voluntarily provided in peacetime and equipment that may be designated for mobilization in wartime.
MISSION OF THE RESERVE
- to provide trained and appropriately equipped personnel and serviceable equipment for the military units of the Armed Forces, both in peacetime and in wartime, as well as the structures referred to in Article 50, paragraph 2 of the Law on Defense and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria and other forces within the national security system in wartime;
- to maintain the strength of the personnel of the Armed Forces units with reservists and equipment reserve during prolonged combat operations in wartime.
VISION FOR THE RESERVE
The Armed Forces Reserve is developed in accordance with an updated and sustainable legal framework; with personnel strength and structure tailored to the mission and tasks of the Armed Forces; with a centralized system for planning, command and control, training, mobilization, and record-keeping; with an optimized quantitative and qualitative composition; with a mixed recruitment system—voluntary and compulsory; with effective motivation and incentive programs in place; with an increased contribution in peacetime and deployment in a wide range of missions and operations both within and outside the country, including civil protection tasks; and with legally regulated relations between employers/equipment owners and the Ministry of Defense.
